Stereo welding

Stereo or simultaneous welding is a method regularly used at Deprest. As the word suggests, this is a method where 2 welders weld a sheet or pipe on both sides at the same time in order to achieve a perfect lap. The difficulty here is to have the welders welding at exactly the same speed, so they need to be adjusted to match each other perfectly.

A backing gas is often used to achieve a full penetration weld. In the case of small pieces of pipe, it is quite easy to fill the inside of the pipe with gas, but that is not so simple with larger diameters such as boilers. There we use a sort of counter-plate or strip to form a chamber where the gas can be introduced.
