Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)

Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)

known in Dutch as onderpoederdeklassen or welding under flux — is one of Deprest’s key welding processes for pressure vessels and heavy steel components.

In this fully automated process, an electric arc burns beneath a layer of flux powder, which completely covers and protects the weld zone. The flux shields the molten metal from air, stabilises the arc, and forms a slag layer that produces a clean, uniform weld surface.

Because the arc is submerged, there is no visible arc light or spatter, resulting in deep, consistent and defect-free welds — ideal for thick-walled sections and long seams.

At Deprest, our SAW installations guarantee high deposition rates, reliable weld penetration and full traceability, ensuring every weld meets the strictest standards of quality and safety.

Precision beneath the surface — that’s Deprest quality in every seam.
